Air Fryer Fruit Turnovers

This is the choose-your-own-adventure dessert. Apple, cherry, blueberry, peach, or mixed berry all work. The only bossy rule is to keep the filling thick so it stays inside the pastry instead of staging a jailbreak.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed but still cold
  • 3/4 cup fruit pie filling or thick fruit preserves
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch, if fruit filling is loose
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest, optional
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar, optional
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F.
  2. Unfold the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 8 equal rectangles or squares.
  3. If the fruit filling is very loose, stir in the cornstarch. Add lemon zest if you want a brighter flavor.
  4. Spoon 1 to 2 tablespoons of filling onto one side of each pastry piece, leaving a clean edge.
  5. Fold the pastry over the filling and press the edges with a fork to seal. Cut a tiny slit in the top of each turnover so steam can escape.
  6. Beat the egg with water, then brush the tops of the turnovers. Sprinkle with coarse sugar if using.
  7. Place turnovers in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Air fry for 8 to 10 mins., until puffed and golden. Work in batches if needed.; stir powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla into a thick glaze. Drizzle over warm turnovers before serving.
