Ingredients
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed but still cold
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and finely chopped
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar, optional
- Powdered sugar, for serving optional
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 340°F. Line the basket with parchment if needed.; stir together the apples, walnuts, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt.
- Unfold the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Gently roll it just enough to smooth the seams.
- Spoon the apple filling down the center third of the pastry, leaving space at both ends.
- Fold one long side over the filling, then fold the second side over the top. Pinch the seam and ends closed. Place the strudel seam-side down.
- Brush the top with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar if using. Cut 3 small slits across the top to vent steam.
- Carefully place the strudel in the air fryer basket. Air fry for 12 to 14 mins., until the pastry is golden and the apples are tender.
- Let rest for 10 mins. before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Gourmet Geek Tip
Keep the seam side down. | Chop apples small for even cooking. | Rest before slicing so the filling settles.
